A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
