Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, I’m thinking about his kid and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
