Los Angeles Erupts in Celebration as Dodgers Secure Back-to-Back World Series Championship
The City of Angels witnessed citywide celebrations after the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Supporters across the globe united with Angelenos in jubilation, marking the first time in 25 years that a franchise has achieved back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Attracts Enormous Turnout
Los Angeles area celebrations featured a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Online footage depict thousands of Angelenos packing downtown streets, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen riding high on a open-top bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path concluded at Dodger Stadium, where the players emerged to the rapper’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and Ice Cube driving a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Player Reactions
Celebrations started well before the procession, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the roads of the city center on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” he said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Mixed Reactions and City Unity
However, the team owner was met with a cooler reception at the rally. Recordings from the event appear to show him walking onstage to a mix of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The championship served as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An estimated quarter-million people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, supporters this year showed as much if not more enthusiasm.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” he said. “The supporters are incredible. It’s truly amazing to be a part of this.”
