Weather experts are reporting a chilly commencement to the new year, with snow expected throughout a lot of the UK. Those celebrating are being urged to wrap up as bitterly cold temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Festive Events Continue Amid Forecasts
The Scottish capital's renowned Hogmanay festivities are planned to go ahead, following last year's calling-off. This proceeds amid yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.

Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with temperatures likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials explained this indicated the weather could to lead to notable consequences across the NHS and care systems. This encompasses a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those aged 65 or over.
