Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
