President Trump Invites Families of Injured National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor her,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Mourners gathered over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both they had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid public safety in the capital.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that teachers desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” the principal, the leader of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”

Service arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Judicial Actions and Government Revisions

Authorities have indicted a 29-year-old suspect with one count of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.

The event led the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing visas to owners of travel documents.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.

He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, as stated by the military.

“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the audience at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
