A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation grappling with persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Police said the forty-year-old entertainer was confronted by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before running away.

The purpose behind the shooting is unknown and no arrests have taken place, as per the official statement.

Details of the Attack

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a building close to the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building supervising the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, according to reports.

"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," an official report confirmed.

Security camera video showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ sought to escape after he was hit but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the assault.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the location.

Investigation Ongoing

Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to come forward.

"We know they traveled on foot after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to establish their location," stated a police chief.

A Nation in Mourning

His family member, a close relative, said the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am devastated. I don't have words," she stated.
"We know he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to discuss. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the public to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's young family.

A industry leader expressed that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every performance. His dedication to creativity left an profound impact."
