Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
