Spurs Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Genuine Supporters'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Spurs fans" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of scores in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th Premier League at home loss of 2025.
But the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his box.
He came out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the touchline.
However, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.
King passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.
One of those jeering episodes truly irritated Frank.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans reportedly booed the incident and booed after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be true Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half performance.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "completely preventable".
"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He's a excellent team player, he is a real figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive score."
'It's Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Match
Italian international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
He said after the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I accept accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult challenge to overcome."
He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".
"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It's on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it is tough to take."
'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division score of the campaign – following Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on Saturday.
The goalscorer said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
10 seconds passed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was five seconds following the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was out of the area for ages," he remarked.
"I was surprised not one of the back four returned to the goal line. When not one of them covered the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie fell too, which gave me a little extra opportunity. Then it was solely about attempting to achieve the correct connection and place it on target. I had a positive feeling, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
While Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round bad day for Spurs to continue their home woes.
This was their tenth at home loss of the year in the league, a joint club record matching 1994 and 2003.
They still have home games against the manager's old side the Bees and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the year.
Just a single of those wins have come after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.
"During in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a deflected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique narrative, today we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."
Spurs have lost 4 straight at home capital clashes for the initial time in the top division.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 shots on target per match in the Premier League – their lowest rates on record in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfield player Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's taken a high profile role at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.
"The performances at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
