The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
