Alina Habba has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a judicial decision that challenged her right to hold the office.

The nation's top law enforcement official, the Attorney General, announced her stepping down on the start of the week. She commented that the court's "flawed" ruling made it unworkable for her to lead the department effectively.
"Do not interpret following the order as giving up," Habba stated. "The effort will now extend throughout the country."

Her resignation was triggered by a federal appellate panel found that she had been acting without proper authority as US attorney. This decision is likely to affect many legal proceedings in the state.
The court declared that a acting appointment that skirted the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the statute on vacant positions.
