‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Moving Homage to Director Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the deceased director Rob Reiner, who was her director in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“How we will long for this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Legal Proceedings Unfold

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan added. “While uncertain, I suspect they'd wish for a hopeful, compassionate outcome that fosters mutual understanding and peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Peers Pay Their Respects

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner through a message shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the statement said. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a hit with both critics and audiences in 1989, making over $93m at the box office and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a fellow filmmaker and pal.

Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
